Manitoba PCs Investing in the North
Bringing new pool to Flin Flon adds recreation, swim safety: Stefanson
FLIN FLON — Residents of Flin Flon and the surrounding area may soon have new recreation opportunities with a new pool, Manitoba PC Party leader Heather Stefanson announced today.
“If re-elected our PC Team will invest in the community leisure assets that are most needed,” said Stefanson. “I’m pleased to announce that our team is committed to providing $10 million to support the Flin Flon Aqua Centre.”
In 2022/2023 and 2023/24, the PC government introduced the Arts, Culture and Sport in Community (ACSC) fund, and committed up to $100 million in funding to support capital projects and community celebrations.
“Across Manitoba, and in the North, members of the legislative assembly had the opportunity to go to work for their constituents to point them towards ACSC program availability and provide support in the application process, if needed,” Stefanson said. “Where MLAs failed to avail themselves of this opportunity, I worry some projects may have been missed. We’re rectifying that.”
In the Flin Flon constituency, applications came forward and ACSC grants were issued for the Trout Festival ($5,000), the Flin Flon Public Library for critical renovations (over $283,000), the Flin Flon Bombers hockey club viewing box and audio upgrades ($24,680), the Town of Snow Lake for curling rink renovations ($343,030), and Flin Flon Arts Council Inc. for a development program to service remote communities ($125,000).
The City of Flin Flon did make an application in the ACSC large capital category for $5 million, but because costs have climbed for the project, the PCs are committed to a $10-million grant.
“This commitment demonstrates the results of listening to local needs and thinking outside of the box,” said Charlotte Larocque, PC candidate for Flin Flon. “I’m proud to be running for a party that is building stronger communities right across this great province of ours, including the north.”
