Stefanson Pledges Support for Brandon Sportsplex Arena

Commitment to fund overhaul for key local recreation facility: Stefanson

BRANDON — A re-elected PC government will invest $5 million to support redevelopment of the Brandon Sportsplex Arena, PC Leader Heather Stefanson announced today.

“For more than 40 years, the Sportsplex has been where Brandon families have come together to learn how to swim, play hockey, and lead active and healthy lifestyles,” said Stefanson.

The Brandon Sportsplex is a full-service recreation facility owned and operated by the City of Brandon. It has served Brandon and the surrounding community since 1970, and includes a pool, racquetball facility, outdoor track and field, and hockey arena. This spring, an ice plant failure caused a disturbance to community services. This $5-million commitment will help to fund an overhaul of the facility to continue serving the community for years to come.

“Investing in the future of this beloved institution will help ensure the next generation of healthy families and communities can be nurtured and sustained in Brandon,” Stefanson said. “Our PC Team is fighting for healthier communities across Manitoba.”

The PCs have also committed to investing $100 million to replenish the highly successful Arts, Culture and Sport in Community (ACSC) funding program, which will further help organizations in Brandon rejuvenate their community sports and cultural centres.

“Supporting our community sportsplex means healthier families and a stronger local economy,” said Len Isleifson, PC candidate for Brandon East. “Our party’s further commitment to strengthening the ACSC fund will boost local service clubs and enrich community life for everyone.”

The provincial election will be held October 3rd, 2023.
