Brandon West
Wayne Balcaen is the former Brandon Police Chief and he is fighting for Brandon West.
Wayne was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and moved to Soest, Germany when he was six weeks old. There he joined his father, a member of the Canadian Military who was serving a 3-year overseas tour and the rest of his family. Upon completing this tour, they returned to Shilo and eventually he moved to Brandon at age 5, making Brandon home base since that time.
Balcaen completed all his elementary/middle years and high school education in Brandon. He attended to the Lethbridge Community College (now Lethbridge College) and received a diploma in Law Enforcement in April of 1990. Chief Balcaen joined the Brandon Police Service in October of 1990 and has spent the past 32 years in various areas of the Police Service including patrol division, detectives, drug enforcement, community policing, support services and the last 8 years in the administration.
Wayne Balcaen was appointed as the Police Service’s 19th Chief of police on October 30th, 2017. He is a graduate of the Police Leadership and Management Program through the Saskatchewan Police College and of the Executive Development in Policing through the Canadian Police College.
Wayne is an active member of the Brandon community sitting on a number of boards and committees. He is married to wife Sharlene and together they have two adult children and 4 granddaughters, all of whom make their home in Brandon.
