PC Manitoba Statement on the Transcona By-election Application Process
This message responds to concerns raised by a potential applicant during the recent candidate selection process for the Transcona by-election, who claimed that PC Manitoba has prevented them from running. PC Manitoba is committed to conducting all candidate application processes fairly, transparently, and consistently and rejects this claim.
The Candidate Selection Committee reviewed the partial application. However, the applicant had not obtained the necessary signatures required by members of the constituency. The applicant had also not submitted the required forms to complete their criminal record, finance, and social media reviews. The applicant requested an extension and was informed that the request was declined.
The complainant also stated that it was unfair that PC Manitoba did not share the membership list so that they could contact the people in Transcona for the purpose of signing the nomination form. It is a usual part of the nomination process that interested parties would sell memberships in advance of this process and would not require a list to obtain the required number of signatures. PC Manitoba protects the privacy of its members and does not share membership lists until the applicant becomes an approved candidate.
The Candidate Selection Committee has reviewed its processes and can confirm that they operated under the guidelines of the PC Manitoba Constitution. Our processes are designed to ensure a fair and transparent opportunity for every candidate while maintaining the integrity of our policies and procedures. This includes an appeal process, which has been shared with the complainant.
We would like to thank the Candidate Selection Committee for their work in ensuring this process was handled fairly and with integrity.
Sincerely,
PC Party of Manitoba
